HKSI’s Response to 2016 Policy Address

13 January 2016

The Government has continuously affirmed its ongoing commitment to Hong Kong’s long-term sports development in recent years’ Policy Addresses.  The Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) appreciates this focus being continued this year and welcomes the establishment of the “Commissioner for Sports”.  We believe the Commissioner will further the coordinated development of sports across the broad spectrum in Hong Kong.  The continued focus on new initiatives providing opportunities for retiring athlete is a welcome development and will encourage more athletes to train full time.

Mr Carlson Tong Ka-shing SBS JP, Chairman of the HKSI said, “With the completion of the HKSI Redevelopment Project, we can fully take advantage of our new world-class facilities to assist athletes to pursue further breakthrough results at major sporting competitions. However, this cannot be achieved without the Government’s commitment to ongoing initiatives for sustaining sports and athlete development in Hong Kong.  The ‘Commissioner for Sports’ initiative is a very positive development.  In its role as the Government’s elite sport training systems delivery agent, the HKSI is committed to full cooperation with the Commissioner and all other stakeholders including the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China and the National Sports Associations to provide an environment in which sports talent can be identified, nurtured, and developed to pursue excellence in the international sporting arena.”
