Hong Kong athletes enjoyed a fantastic year and brought home over 390 medals, including 109 gold in Multi-Sports Games and other international competitions. Impressive overall achievements included a year-end number one ranking in fencing, a world’s fastest time in swimming, and two consecutive world cup championships in gymnastics.

Elite Training

Elite Training

A world-standard training and support environment for high performance athletes facilitates them to excel in the international sporting arena. Athletes are provided with science-based support for elite training, which is sustained through funding from the Elite Athletes Development Fund. With the support from the Government, a new multi-purpose building is under preparation to meet increased needs for training, sports science and sports medicine facilities.

In order to further enrich educational support for student athletes, the HKSI signed two more Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with local institutions, taking its total collaborations with tertiary institutions supporting Hong Kong’s athletes to 11. The HKSI’s vocational, social and personal development support has also flourished, with a variety of well received programmes, schemes and workshops having been implemented.

Engaging the Community

Engaging the Community

Connecting Hong Kong’s athletes with the community is essential in order to boost the visibility of elite sports. Over 550 community engagement programmes were undertaken, with a reach of over 1.1 million people. Our social media platforms continued to go far and wide into the community, reaching over 5.3 million people. Furthermore, a new community programme named Community In Action was launched, aiming to promote sports in the community and encourage whole-person development of athletes.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust renewed its funding support for the Hong Kong Coach Education Programme, ensuring that internationally benchmarked coaching is sustained in Hong Kong. In addition to exchanging coaching knowledge with local and overseas counterparts, regular courses and seminars were also organised for coaches at all levels from community to elite.

Exchanges with Sports Professionals

In order to stay at the forefront of global trends in elite sports development, the HKSI has continued to maintain regular exchanges with sports professionals in mainland China and overseas. Among the achievements, 119 exchange programmes were carried out and a new MOU was signed with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in order to support our elite athletes at Major Games.
