Exchanges with Sports Professionals
The HKSI maintains frequent exchanges with sports professionals in mainland China and overseas, in order to stay at the forefront of global trends in elite sports development in areas such as athlete training, coaching, sports science and sports management.
MOU for Collaboration
The HKSI and CUHK Medical Centre Limited and CUHK Medical Clinic Limited signed a MOU on 8 September 2021 for provision of medical services, including consultations, treatments and medications, to the HKSI Scholarship Athletes in the case of injuries or illnesses.
ASIA Virtual Workshop
The Association of Sports Institutes in Asia (ASIA) Virtual Workshop was held on 3 March 2022 under the theme “Next Stage: Our Challenges beyond Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022”. With the pandemic influencing the world and posing as one of the biggest challenges for athlete support practices, speakers provided insights from their experiences on athlete support during the new normal, and also the future of ASIA, attracting over 110 online participants.
ASIA is the first association bringing together the region’s high performance training centres, and was founded by the HKSI, the Singapore Sport Institute, the Japan Sport Council and the Aspire Academy in 2015. Currently ASIA has 19 member institutes from 16 different countries and regions.
Visitors to HKSI
The then HKSAR Chief Executive Mrs Carrie Lam, joined by the then Secretary for Home Affairs Mr Caspar Tsui Ying-wai, visited the HKSI in May 2021 to meet with athletes and coaches and extended support to the athletes to perform their best at the Tokyo Olympics. In August, they visited the HKSI again to support cyclist Lee Wai-sze and witness her medal winning race on live broadcast. They toured the HKSI new facilities development site and discussed the project with the HKSI Chairman and senior management.
The mainland China Olympian Delegation, including 13 Olympic gold medallists, toured the HKSI’s elite training facilities and mingled with about 100 Hong Kong elite and junior athletes at the “Tokyo Olympic Games Mainland Olympians Delegation – Olympians Exchange with Hong Kong Sports Institute Elite Athletes” in December 2021. The then Sports Commissioner Mr Yeung Tak-keung and representatives from The Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR also joined the event.
During the year, the HKSI received Mr Joe Wong Chi-cho, the then Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, to exchange views on sports science and the sports medicine support system, and the HKSI new facilities development project.
Mr Patrick Nip Tak-kuen, the then Secretary for the Civil Service, also visited the HKSI’s temporary vaccination centre for athletes, coaches and staff.
