MOU for Collaboration
The HKSI and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 28 November 2023 to establish the PolyU – HKSI Research Centre. This dedicated institution aims to drive research in elite sports, promote the development of sports science and technology, and assist athletes in reaching their full potential and achieving greater success.
The Centre will be jointly operated by PolyU’s Research Institute for Sports Science and Technology and the HKSI, and serve as a platform for collaboration between the two institutions, sharing resources and advancing research in sports science and technology development. It will connect researchers from PolyU with sports organisations, forming a team of experts, comprising academics, technologists, sports professionals, and technical analysts, to undertake interdisciplinary research at the cutting edge of sports science and develop proposals for large-scale projects.
Sports Cardiology Case Presentation Forum 2023
Co-organised by the HKSI, the Sports Cardiology Case Presentation Forum 2023, themed Sports and Cardiac Arrhythmia, was held at the HKSI on 4 November 2023. The aim of the forum is to provide an educational platform for healthcare providers to gain up-to-date knowledge and enhance their competency so they can incorporate evidence-based updates in the care of athletes and highly active people with known or suspected cardiovascular diseases. The conference was well-received, attracting about 70 doctors and sport professionals.
International Federation of Sports Medicine Editorial Workshop on Team Physician Manual (4th Edition)
Host organised by the HKSI, the International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS) Editorial Workshop on Team Physician Manual (4th Edition) was held at the HKSI from 18 to 19 December 2023. Around 20 experts in the area of sports medicine participated in the workshop, which aimed to review and update the content of the Team Physician Manual. The Manual is the official sports medicine handbook of the FIMS, the world’s oldest sports medicine organisation. It offers a complete guide to the background knowledge, practical techniques and professional skills required to become a successful medical practitioner working in sports.
Psychological Challenge for the Paris Olympics Sport Psychology Conference
In a collaborative effort between the HKSI and the Hong Kong Society of Sport & Exercise Psychology, the Sport Psychology Conference, themed Psychological Challenge for the Paris Olympics, was held at the HKSI on 6 March 2024. Speakers provided their experience and exchanged views on the prevalent psychological support needs of athletes during competitions. The conference was well received, attracting about 100 sports psychology practitioners, coaches, athletes, representatives from the sporting community, and students from Hong Kong and overseas.
Visitors to HKSI
Mr Kevin Yeung Yun-hung, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism visited the HKSI on 14 September 2023 to meet with athletes and coaches to show the Government’s support for the athletes participating in the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games and Asian Para Games.
Led by the Hon Vincent Cheng Wing-shun, the Chairman of the Panel on Home Affairs, Culture and Sports of the Legislative Council and Hon Joephy Chan Wing-yan, Vice Chairman, members of the Panel toured the HKSI’s training facilities and elite training science and technology centres in November 2023, gaining an in-depth understanding of the daily training routines of our athletes and the operations of the HKSI.
During the year, the HKSI received the Commissioner for Belt and Road, and the Federation of District Sports Association of Hong Kong and other local institutions to tour the elite training facilities.
In addition, Mainland and overseas visitors from the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in San Francisco, the Shandong Sports Bureau, and the Singapore Sport Institute etc. visited the HKSI to foster international cooperation and facilitate exchange on the development of elite sports.
