Scientific training and the integration of sports science and medicine in preparation for the Beijing Olympic Games

Mr Miles Forbes Thomas has coached a number of champion rowers including Peter Haining, who won the men's lightweight single at the World Championships in 1993. In the Athens Olympic Games, his women's pair won a silver medal and the women's double won a bronze medal. In the Beijing Olympic Games, his women's double sculls took a bronze medal. Miles graduated with a degree in biochemistry from the University of London and has a strong understanding of physiological and biochemical aspects of sport. He is a strong advocate of the "scientific approach" to training and always makes full use of available scientific support services in his work as a coach.
