Jockey Club Elite Athlete Career-Path Programmes - Elite Athletes Continuing Education Subsidy (Level 1 & 2)

I.

OBJECTIVES

  The Elite Athletes Continuing Education Subsidy (“EACES”) aims at providing different levels of financial support for eligible HKSI Scholarship Athletes to pursue further education by taking education programme and training courses in recognized educational institutions. Applicants have to obtain the approval of Head Coach to support their applications and eligible application will be provided with subsidy after vetting and approval of related authorities.
 

II.

ELIGIBILITY OF APPLICANTS

 

1. Applicants who -

  • are current HKSI Scholarship athletes; or
  • are retired athletes who have withdrawn from the HKSI Scholarship Scheme, will be considered for support. Applicants should complete the study programme and submit application within the support grace period which is 1-year at maximum following the withdrawal date; and
     

2. Only applications with the recommendation of Head Coach will be accepted.

III.

ELIGIBILITY OF SPORTING RESULTS

Sporting Results Criteria Max. level of Subsidy
Level 1 Support   

Athletes who have achieved Elite Vote Score pt. 3 level or above at Junior Level Competitions

Reimburse 40% / max. sum of $ 10,000 of applied course (whichever is the less)
Level 2 Support  

Athletes who have achieved Elite Vote Score pt. 3 level or above at Senior Level Competitions

Reimburse 80% / max. sum of $ 20,000 of applied course (whichever is the less)

IV.

EDUCATION PROGRAMME/ TRAINING COURSE ELIGIBLE FOR REIMBURSEMENT

   
  • Recognized courses of different levels (i.e. Degree/Associate Degree/Higher Diploma/Diploma/Certificate levels) offered by either local or overseas educational institutions.
  • Secondary school education programmes.
  • Sport related courses (e.g. NSCA-CPT and HKPFA), exam preparation courses for language (i.e. TOEFL, SAT, IELTS etc.) and professional training courses (e.g. LCCI and ACCA).
  • Virtual school (e.g. master degree course) and distance learning courses.
  • Other courses directly related to athletes’ professional career development.
     

V.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

 
  • EACES is open for application two times a year and applicants could only submit application during either ONE of two application periods, usually in July or January.  (Amendment effective form 2018/19)
  • If the programme lasts less than one year, application should be submitted upon the completion of the programme.  If the programme lasts for more than one year, athletes should submit their application after completing one academic year’s study.
  • Completed application form (with endorsement of Head Coach), together with annual tuition fee receipt (original copy), academic transcripts and/or further information, should be submitted to the Athlete Affairs Department on or before the deadline of application specified.
  • Application details and forms are obtainable from the Athlete Affairs Department.
     

VI.

REGULATIONS ON REIMBURSEMENT

 
  1. Athletes can only receive support through the Subsidy for ONLY ONE programme/course and ONCE A YEAR for each successful application.
  2. Each eligible athlete will be supported for a maximum of 4 years either: (i) ONE long-term (more than one year) study programme; or (ii) different programmes in each year.  (Amendment effective from 2012/13)
  3. If athlete has used up his support periods (i.e. 4 times) at Level Two Subsidy and would like to apply for EACES though Level One Subsidy (but without any eligible result achieved at junior level competition), application for Level One Subsidy support would be considered provided that the athlete has an additional eligible result achieved at senior level competition.
  4. Failed programmes/ courses are not eligible for reimbursement. Regarding tuition fee reimbursement for a particular school term/ semester within a long term programme, only the subjects/ modules completed with a pass could be reimbursed. For such cases, the actual reimbursement would be calculated by proportion of the passed subjects/ total credit points of the passed modules in that term/ semester.
  5. Applicants should be a HKSI scholarship athlete (or withdrawn from HKSI Scholarship Scheme for less than 1 year) at the time of application, as well as during the study period of the programme/ course applied for EACES support.
  6. If applicant would like to apply for EACES to reimburse for a completed study programme/ course, the programme should be completed within the past two years at the time of application.
     

VII.

IMPORTANT NOTE
 

  1. It is the responsibility of athletes to notify the HKSI if they have received any other financial support from the Student Financial Assistance Agency and other organizations for the programme/course to be claimed by EACES.
  • If athletes have already received financial assistance from other sources to cover the tuition fee of the applied course in full (such as Full payment in Government grants and loans under the Student Finance Office, the Hong Kong Athletes Fund, University Sports Subsidy Scheme and the Local Education Allowance from the HKSAR Government etc.), the related programme/course will not be considered for support.
  • If athletes have already received financial assistance from other sources to cover partial of the tuition fee of the applied course, only the remaining tuition fee would be considered in the calculation of EACES reimbursement.
