Cyclist Wong Kin-chung wins 2 medals at the Sultan Azlan Shah ACC Track Asia Cup Championships (Malaysia leg)

Hong Kong cyclist Wong Kin-chung won a silver medal in the Men¡¦s Sprint event and a bronze medal in the Men¡¦s Keirin event at the Sultan Azlan Shah ACC Track Asia Cup Championships held on 7-9 July in Ipoh, Malaysia.

Table tennis player Tie Yana moves up the world ranking list

Congratulations to Hong Kong table tennis player Tie Yana who has moved up the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) world ranking list from No.6 to No. 3, the highest world ranking she has ever attained in her career. This is also the highest world ranking ever attained by any Hong Kong table tennis player.

New Reference at the Sports Information Centre (SIC)

A practical guide to sports first aid

Written by Wayne Gill and published by Lotus Publishing in 2005, this book teaches sports first aid practitioners the essential skills required to deal with all medical emergencies they may encounter. It covers relevant skills to diagnose and treat injuries to a professional standard, with illustrations and detailed instructions for using first aid devices. It also has a chapter on first aid for athletes with disabilities. Coaches and therapists will find it useful.

Coaching champions: developing young sportspeople

Written by Tony Gummerson and published by A & C Black in 2005, this book is a comprehensive coaching manual to help identify, nurture and develop sporting talent for young people. Topics covered include: how to identify potential talents, ages for stages of skill development, sport-specific training, fitness and conditioning, assessing performance and safe coaching. This book is useful for coaches or instructors for training young athletes.
