Key Focus Areas
International Results
Over 460 medals – 111 of them gold, were won in Multi-Sports Games and other international competitions. Strong overall achievements included best-ever results at the Summer Universiade (2 gold and 2 bronze medals) and the National Games (2 gold, 7 silver and 7 bronze medals).
Elite Training
A multi-disciplinary biopsychosocial model is used to provide science-based, athlete-centred support for elite training. Athletes are provided with a financially stable environment to train and excel in the international sports arena through five Direct Financial Support schemes. New programmes were launched in support of disability sports and team sports.
Supporting Athletes
To further enhance the support for student athletes, we signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with three local universities, to help elite athletes balance study and training, and develop dual career pathways.
Engaging the Community
To boost the visibility of elite sport and connect athletes with the community, access was provided to over 60,000 participants at the HKSI and to more than 220,000 at outreach events. We also began engaging people through social media, such as Facebook and Instagram.
Developing Coaches
Through the Hong Kong Jockey Club Coach Education Programme, which in 2017/18 benefited more than 2,200 coaches, courses, talks and seminars were held. The annual Jockey Club Hong Kong Coaching Awards aims to recognise coaches’ efforts and dedication.
Exchanges with Sports Professionals
We continued exchanges with international sports professionals, notably through hosting the 2nd Annual Congress of the Association of Sports Institutes in Asia. The HKSI also signed a historic MOU with the Preparation Office for the Olympic Games of the General Administration of Sport of China.
