HKCC's Status Renewal for 2006 Accredited Coaches Ended This Month
To enhance the quality of coaches through active participation in the continuing coach education activities, the Hong Kong Coaching Committee (HKCC) has been organising the “Accredited Coach Renewal Scheme” (ACRS) since 2008, and they are renewing for coaches accredited in 2006, till 31 December 2010. Upon completing renewal for the current batch of coaches, the HKCC will start replacement from March to April 2011 for those coaches accredited between January 2007 and August 2008. All concerned coaches should make use of this opportunity to renew their qualification free of charge within the designated period as all old Sports-General Theory Certificates will become invalid after the respective replacement period. This means they need to re-take the relevant level of Coach Accredited courses to re-activate their accredited coach status. Under the ACRS, the status of all accredited coaches would be good for four years upon completion of the Sport-General Theory (Part A) Course and they are required to accumulate sufficient hours of continuing coach education activities to maintain their qualification. With effect from 1 May 2010, three new channels have been offered to accredited coaches for diversely accumulating CCE hours – teaching non Sports-Specific courses, seminars or workshops, serving as coaching committee member in the NSAs, as well as authoring books or peer-reviewed journal articles in non Sports-Specific areas. Professor Frank Fu, Chairman of the HKCC, said, “The historic medal haul we attained at the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games reflected that the standard of Hong Kong young athletes are reaching the Asian standard. To keep up this outstanding performance, we need more professional coaches to help nurture athletes and enhance their performance. The ACRS promotes the culture of lifelong professional development in the sports coaching industry which is beneficial to the long-term sports development in Hong Kong.” The Hong Kong Coach Education Programme (HKCEP) has been funded by the Hongkong Bank Foundation with a total commitment of more than HK$21 million since 1992. Throughout the years, over 60,000 coaches have benefited from the training and recognition programmes in the HKCEP. The HKCC have trained and accredited over 14,000 coaches through the Coach Accreditation Programme (CAP) since 1991. Apart from the CAP, other major components of the HKCEP include the Hongkong Bank Foundation School Coach Accreditation Programme, Hongkong Bank Foundation Continuing Coach Education Programme and Hongkong Bank Foundation School Coach Continuing Education Programme, as well as Hongkong Bank Foundation Coaching Awards.
