In recognition of their remarkable achievements at the 26th Summer Universiade 2011 (also known as the World University Games), bringing home a record number of three bronze medals, six young athletes were presented with a total cash incentive of HK$200,000 today at the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) under the HKSI Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme. At the presentation ceremony held today, the men's athletics team which included Ho Man-lok, Lai Chun-ho, Leung Ki-ho and Yip Siu-keung was presented with a total of HK$100,000 for their bronze medal in 4x100m relay. Fencer Au Yeung Wai-sum and gymnast Wong Hiu-ying, who are both out of town for overseas trainings and competitions, were each awarded with HK$50,000 for their outstanding achievement in women's individual sabre and women's vault respectively. Officiating guests at today's presentation ceremony included Dr Trisha Leahy, Chief Executive of the HKSI and Dr Patrick Chan, Chairman of University Games Committee and also Head of the Hong Kong, China Delegation to the Games. Family members of the medallists were also invited to the ceremony to share the happy moments. Dr Trisha Leahy found it very impressive for local athletes achieving such good results at the Games. "It is not easy for athletes to strike a balance between school study and sports training and I appreciate very much for their efforts in performing their best at such a competitive event," said Dr Leahy. Dr Patrick Chan expressed his heartfelt congratulations to the athletes and said: "Our athletes' hard-work brought much glory and pride to the city and we are so proud of them." Established by the HKSI in 1994, the HKSI Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme aims at recognising outstanding achievements of Hong Kong athletes at seven Major Games, namely the Olympic Games, the Paralympic Games, the Asian Games, the Asian Para Games, the East Asian Games, the National Games and the World University Games.
