Russian National Youth Football Team Appreciates the Hong Kong Sports Institute's Elite Training Support System and Facilities

The Russian National Youth Football Team (Team) highly appreciated during a visit to the HKSI today the Hong Kong Sports Institute’s (HKSI) biopsychosocial approach and support a&s well as the world-class training facilities provided to athletes.

Dr Trisha Leahy, Chief Executive of the HKSI, thanked specially Dmitry Strutynskiy, representative from The Football Union of Russia. She said, “Being an elite training centre for Hong Kong athletes, the HKSI welcomes visits and exchanges of all nature from different parts of the world. We are pleased and honoured to be the first organisation visited by the Team which reflects that the elite training is of great value to the Hong Kong SAR Government and the Team.”

Guided by Dr Leahy and accompanied by officials of the Home Affairs Bureau and the Hong Kong Football Association, the Team visited the Sports Science Centre, the Sports Medicine Centre and the Fitness Training Centre where they were impressed by HKSI’s application of high performance technology and equipments. They further toured around the elite training venues for badminton, table tennis and wushu.

The Team also met with HKSI’s elite coaches and athletes during the visit which including Wayne Griffiths, the HKSI Head Billiard Sports Coach, Chris Perry, the HKSI Head Rowing Coach and Rene Appel, the HKSI Head Windsurfing Coach, as well as elite athletes including Ng Ka-fung and Tsui Chi-ho (Athletics), Nicholas Edward Choi (Fencing), Lee Ho-ching (Table Tennis), Law Leong-tim (Triathlon), Cheng Chung-hang and Fung Wing-see (Wushu). Both the elite coaches and athletes shared their experience in coaching and training with the Team during lunch, fostering a pleasant atmosphere and thus paved the way for future exchange on sports development between the two places.

Cheng was happy to receive the Team and said, “This exchange tour provides valuable experience to local athletes, broadening our horizons and allowing us to recognise athletes of different nationalities and from different sports.”

The Team was invited by the Hong Kong Government to pay visit to Hong Kong from 13 - 18 November. Apart from visiting the HKSI, the Team will play with a Hong Kong youth representative team to celebrate the re-opening of the Mong Kok Stadium.
