Accounting Officer

The Hong Kong Sports Institute Limited (“HKSI”) is the Government’s delivery agent to provide the high performance training system for eligible sports. The HKSI’s mission is to provide an environment in which sports talent can be identified, nurtured and developed to pursue excellence in the international sporting arena benchmarked at Major Games results. We are now inviting suitable candidates for the following vacancy:

The Job

Reporting to the Assistant Finance Manager (“AFM”), the Accounting Officer will be responsible for the following duties of the cost centres assigned:

  • To handle the month/year-end closing activities for the books of the HKSIL, the Trust Fund or other designated projects, and the preparation of financial statements and other supporting documents for management reports and annual audit;
  • To supervise Accounting Assistant (“AA”) in daily operations like journals preparation, handling of billings, receipts and payments and check the works performed by AA;
  • To monitor the settlement of creditors, receipt of debtors and other funding accounts;
  • To communicate with staff of respective departments for accounting and financial matters pertaining to their duties;
  • To check overseas duty travel applications, travel booking confirmations and overseas travel expenses statement; and advance payments and final settlements prepared by AA;
  • To check and verify the information of the Fixed Assets on the system and prepare the depreciation;
  • To assist the AFM in the implementation of accounting and financial control procedures;
  • To prepare bank correspondences for deposit transfer and assist in the cash flow review on the bank accounts and other banking matters; and
  • To perform any other appropriate duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

The Requirements

  • A recognised degree in finance or accounting or related disciplines or a finalist of professional accounting bodies;
  • A minimum of 4 years’ relevant accounting experience. Candidate with supervisory level experience gained from a sizable organization is an advantage;
  • Effective communication in both spoken and written English and Chinese, and interpersonal skills;
  • Experience in computer software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel and computerised accounting system;
  • Good database management techniques is an advantage, e.g. Excel VBA for financial analysis and reports; and
  • Knowledge in Sun Account System and Infor Q&A is an advantage, but not a must.
