Project Manager

The Hong Kong Sports Institute Limited (“HKSI”) is the Government’s delivery agent to provide the high performance training system for eligible sports. The HKSI’s mission is to provide an environment in which sports talent can be identified, nurtured and developed to pursue excellence in the international sporting arena benchmarked at Major Games results. We are now inviting suitable candidates for the following vacancy:

The Job

Reporting to the Associate Director of Elite Training Science and Technology, the Project Manager will be responsible for the following duties:

  • To oversee the operation of the Sports Science and Research Funding Scheme (“SRFS”) https://www.hksi.org.hk/ssrfs managed by the HKSI; review project proposals, coordinate the assessment of project proposals, prepare evaluation reports to SRFS Committee on the recommended projects, follow up with prospective project leads on enquiries, and support the selection process;
  • To prepare committee papers and prepare management briefs on the vetting and project progression of funded projects, returns and statistics about the SRFS;
  • To liaise with relevant parties and conclude funding agreements for approved projects;
  • To monitor the progress of funded projects against funding agreements; to coordinate relevant internal and external parties involved in respective approved projects including project leads, coaching departments, the Elite Training Science and Technology Division, and Sports Medicine Division of the HKSI to ensure milestones of funded projects are achieved within schedule and deliverables are scientifically sound;
  • To provide secretarial and logistical support to meetings and events;
  • To organise and coordinate activities and publicity initiatives; to supervise the work of supporting staff in duties and performance to ensure timely completion of assigned duties; and
  • To perform any other appropriate duties as assigned by the supervisor.

 

The Requirements

  • A PhD degree in Sports Science, Sports Medicine, Sports Engineering or a relevant field;
  • A minimum of 5 years of work experience at a management level in a scientific or corporate setting;
  • Strong research or technical background in the research and development, application and commercialization of technology;
  • Good scientific and/or business networks; competency in research and development and/or business and product development; and understanding of current trends in technology and market;
  • Possess knowledge/experience in invention patent and commercialisation of technology;
  • Highly motivated individual with a strong sense of responsibility and able to work proficiently with significant independence and sound judgment;
  • Have a high level of organisational, supervisory, planning, analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work under pressure;
  • Effective communication skills and proven experience in committee servicing;
  • Excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese; ability to speak Putonghua is a definite advantage;
  • Knowledge of scientific elite training or previous experience in a similar setting is preferred; and
  • Awareness/knowledge of Child Protection in sports and equal opportunity issues in the context of Hong Kong are an added advantage.
