A total of thirteen promising athletes, six boys and seven girls, with impressive results in either local or international competitions between July and September, have been nominated for the third quarter of A.S. Watson Group/Hong Kong Sports Institute Outstanding Junior Athlete Awards 2004.
Presented by the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) with the sponsorship of the A.S. Watson Group as well as the support from the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) and the Hong Kong Sports Press Association (HKSPA), the Awards scheme aims to recognise the achievement of local junior athletes on a quarterly basis.
"This is the first nomination after the establishment of the HKSI on 1 October. We are delighted to see that the number of entries has been increasing when compared with the last two quarters, proving not only the importance of the Awards to local National Sports Associations, but also a strong pool of talents for the development of sports in Hong Kong," said Dr Chung Pak-kwong, Acting Chief Executive of the HKSI.
Among 13 nominees, three have been crowned the title before, including squash player Au Wing-chi, triathletes Chan Ye-ko and Mak So-ning.
The judging panel, comprising one representative each from the HKSI, SF&OC and HKSPA, will meet later to select the winners.
A prize presentation will be held at the HKSI in mid of this month and each of the winners will be rewarded a cash prize of $2,500, a sports gears voucher of $2,500 and a certificate of merit.
