Victoria Shanghai Academy (VSA) has officially become the third partner school in Hong Kong under the HKSI Partnership School Programme, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to support the dual-career development of elite athletes. The collaboration integrates full-time athletic training with International Baccalaureate (IB) education, offering athletes full sports scholarships alongside tailored academic pathways.

Officially recognised by the World Academy of Sport as an “Athlete-Friendly School”, VSA will open applications in early 2027 for official enrolment in the 2027/28 academic year. Through this MOU, VSA will provide full-time student-athletes with highly flexible, customised learning models supported by a range of key initiatives, including:

  • Full Sports Scholarships: HKSI-recommended student-athletes who meet the admission requirements and are admitted to VSA will receive full scholarships, along with training support allowances.
  • Flexible Three-Year IB Diploma Track: VSA will design individualised study schedules compatible with HKSI training regimens, giving IB Diploma students the option to extend their programme over three years.
  • Multidisciplinary Athlete Support: Dedicated VSA teams will deliver tailored academic counseling, physical and mental well-being support, and career guidance.

The MOU was signed by Dr Victor Koong, Executive Director of VSA, and Mr Ron Lee, Acting Chief Executive of the HKSI. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Dr Peggy Lam GBS OBE JP, School Supervisor of VSA, and Mr Tang King-shing GBS PDSM, Chairman of the HKSI.

In his welcome speech, Mr Tang expressed his gratitude to VSA for its support for Hong Kong athletes, stating: “At the HKSI, we firmly believe that athletes should be empowered to excel not only in sport, but also in life beyond competition. Supporting their dual-career development has long been a key pillar of our holistic athlete support framework. Our partnership with VSA will enable athletes to choose pathways that best support their sporting ambitions and academic development, contributing to the continued development of sport in Hong Kong.”

Dr Koong remarked, “VSA has always prioritised sports development, fostering a strong campus sports culture and inspiring students’ passion for athletics. Through our partnership with the HKSI, we aim to integrate sports and education by offering personalised learning programmes that allow student-athletes to excel academically while pursuing full-time elite training. Our goal is to help students achieve their dreams and represent both the school and Hong Kong proudly in competitions.”

The signing ceremony featured a panel discussion with prominent Hong Kong student-athletes and VSA alumni—including fencer Hsieh Sin-yan, artistic swimmer Meyako Zhao, and swimmer Ellie Yan—who shared strategies on balancing training and competition with rigorous studies.
