To celebrate Hong Kong athletes’ historic performance at the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities, the HKSI organised the Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme Presentation Ceremony, sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC), to honour the medallists with over HK$6.8 million in cash incentives.
Officiating guests at the presentation ceremony included The Hon Chan Kwok-ki GBS IDSM JP, Chief Secretary for Administration; Mr Lau Chun, Raistlin JP, Under Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr Tang King-shing GBS PDSM, Chairman of the HKSI; The Hon Martin Liao GBM GBS JP, Chairman of the HKJC; and Mrs Fung Ma Kit-han, Jenny SBS BBS JP, President of the China Hong Kong Paralympic Committee. The event brought together athletes, coaches, and the sports community to celebrate this significant milestone.
Hong Kong athletes delivered an exceptional performance at the Games, winning 11 gold, 23 silver and 26 bronze — a total of 60 medals — setting new records for both the number of gold medals and the overall tally. Cash incentives were awarded to 51 athletes across seven sports for their remarkable achievements.
Mr Tang King-shing was immensely proud of the performance of Hong Kong athletes, “Hong Kong athletes achieved a historic breakthrough at the National Games for Persons with Disabilities thanks to the athletes’ dedicated training, as well as the joint efforts and collaboration of the coaching and support teams. The HKSI extends sincere gratitude to the Government, the HKJC and the sports sector for their support, and hopes the community will continue to stand behind Hong Kong athletes as they strive for greater success.”
The Hon Martin Liao, commended the team, saying: “The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region team achieved outstanding results at this year’s National Games for Persons with Disabilities. All athletes gave their best, demonstrating Hong Kong’s ‘can-do spirit’. My sincere thanks to athletes for bringing such positive energy to society and for helping to raise public awareness of parasports. It is very encouraging to see so many people participating in sport, chasing their dreams with courage, and promoting inclusion with such spirit. The Club will continue to work hand-in-hand with the HKSAR Government and various sectors to build on the successful experience of the National Games, to deepen exchange and co-operation within the Greater Bay Area, and to contribute to the development of a strong sporting nation.”
Boccia athlete Leung Yuk-wing competed at the NGD for the first time and won two gold medals. He shared, “It was especially meaningful to stand on the podium on home soil, as the boccia events were held in Hong Kong. Our entire team performed remarkably, winning 4 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze medals — the best-ever result in team history. I am deeply grateful to the Government, the HKSI, the HKJC and the community for their support, as well as to the public for coming to cheer us on. I will continue to work hard and prepare for the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games, aiming for more success.”
Table tennis athlete Wong Ting-ting, who competed in three events, winning a medal in each, said, “It is a great honour to compete in the NGD in Hong Kong and to win three bronze medals. Competing at the nation’s highest level multi-sport event is extremely challenging, but thanks to the support of my team I was able to perform at my best. I will continue to aim for new highs and win more medals for Hong Kong.”
During the sharing session, boccia athlete Cheung Yuen and table tennis athlete Wong Pui-kei described their participation in the NGD as an unforgettable experience. They noted that while the enthusiastic cheers from the home crowd made them feel nervous at times, the support also became a powerful source of motivation, driving them to give their utmost effort and ultimately achieve strong results. Both said the experience has boosted their confidence, and they hoped to continue striving for excellence in coming international competitions.
