Dr Lam Tai-fai SBS JP, Chairman of the HKSI, recently led a group of HKSI’s management and coaches to visit Beijing and met with the General Administration of Sport of China and its subsidiaries.  The HKSI also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Preparation Office for the Olympic Games of the General Administration of Sport of China to enhance the supporting system in preparation for the Olympic Games.

The HKSI delegation met with several subsidiaries of the General Administration of Sport of China including the China Institute of Sport Science, National Institute of Sports Medicine, Chinese Cycling Association, Chinese Fencing Association and Beijing Sport University, to strengthen the existing cooperation and exchanges between the HKSI and these organisations.  The main purpose of this trip was to sign a MOU with the Preparation Office for the Olympic Games of the General Administration of Sport of China to enhance strategic coordination and leverage the advantages and resources of both parties to establish a training system for the preparation of the 2020 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, as well as the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.  With closer cooperation, both parties were expected to reach a higher level of achievement in the international sporting arena.

The collaboration includes teaming up with the sports science and sports medicine experts in mainland China for scientific researches for the benefit of athletes’ performance of both places, enhancement of visits and exchanges of both teams, support regarding the training facilities, venues, research equipment, coaches and science experts to another party for trainings, exchanges and competitions, experience sharing of coach education and athlete nurturing, and the use of respective international networks to promote exchanges.

The visit marked a closer tie between the HKSI and the China Institute of Sport Science especially in the cooperation of sports science & technology science and technology, as well as the exchange of scientific and technological experts in Hong Kong and mainland China.

The HKSI will also work with the National Institute of Sports Medicine for ensuring Hong Kong’s top elite athletes can be included in the medical expert consultation system for preparing of the Olympic Games and enjoy the same level of service as medallists in mainland China.
