The “Paris 2024 Olympic Games Mainland Olympians Delegation — Olympians Exchange with Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) Elite Athletes” took place today. Led by Mr Gao Zhidan, Director of the State General Administration of Sports of China, a total of 32 Olympic medallists and coaches from mainland China shared their joy and glory with over 140 elite athletes of the HKSI.
Mr Tang King-shing GBS PDSM, Chairman of the HKSI, took the opportunity to congratulate the Mainland Olympians Delegation once again for winning 40 golds at the Paris Olympics. He said “the Delegation achieved the best-ever performance in overseas competitions, making breakthroughs in many mainstream and new events, achieving China’s new levels of success to becoming a leading sports power.”
Today’s event included 27 gold medal-winning Mainland Olympians, including Wang Chuqin, Sun Yingsha and Wang Manyu of table tennis, and members of the diving “Dream Team” Xie Siyi, Wang Zongyuan, Long Daoyi, and Cao Yuan. Their dedication and hard work behind each gold medal are truly admirable, serving as excellent examples for young athletes.
The exchange activities were diverse, including visiting the HKSI training venues and engaging in various interactive sessions. Hong Kong Olympians including Tse Ying-suet, Yeung Nga-ting, Lau Wan-yau, Ho Wai-hang, Chiu Hin-chun, Doo Hoi-kem, Ng Wing-lam, Wong Chun-ting and other elite athletes competed in sports other than their primary ones with Mainland athletes or serve as a coach. The indoor rowing race was a highlight of the event, with athletes from both sides giving their best.
The interaction with the Mainland Olympians provided in valuable experience for the elite athletes from the HKSI. With the 15th National Games co-organised by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao approaching, the HKSI is fully cooperating with the Government in organising the Games. The elite athletes are stepping up their training intensity to showcase their abilities and excel!
