Organised by the HKSI, title sponsored by the Shine Tak Foundation, sponsored by the Sports for Hope Foundation and supported by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) and the Hong Kong Sports Press Association (HKSPA), the first half of 2025 presentation ceremony of the Outstanding Junior Athlete Awards (OJAA) was held today to acknowledge the achievements of young athletes.
This year marks a significant milestone for the OJAA, which has been transitioned to a half-yearly format. With doubled nomination quotas, the enhancement allows for broader recognition of promising athletes and teams, further inspiring the youth to strive for excellence. In the first half of 2025, a total of 78 athletes were honoured. The Most Outstanding Junior Awards were also presented at the ceremony.
Awards presenters included Mrs Amy Xiao He Yuanfeng MH, Executive Vice Chairlady of the Shine Tak Foundation; Ms Marie-Christine Lee, Founder of the Sports for Hope Foundation; Mr Philip Mok, Honorary Deputy Secretary General of the SF&OC; Mr Ying On-bong, Chairman of the HKSPA and Mr Tony Choi MH, Chief Executive of the HKSI.
Wan Kwok-ho and Haidi Wu Recognised as Most Outstanding Male/ Female Junior Athlete
Men’s Epee Junior Team Stands Out as Most Outstanding Team
Throwback 2025, Hong Kong’s junior athletes achieved exceptional results at international competitions. Among them, Wan Kwok-ho (Billiard Sports) displayed remarkable talent by capturing a gold medal in the men’s individual event at the 2025 WPA U19 Heyball World Championship, earning him the title of Most Outstanding Male Junior Athlete. Expressing heartfelt gratitude to his coaches, family, and school for their unwavering support and guidance, Wan pledged to continue striving for excellence and achieving better results.
Haidi Wu (Fencing) clinched a bronze medal in the women’s epee cadet individual at the World Junior & Cadet Fencing Championships 2025. Her stellar performance earned her the title of the Most Outstanding Female Junior Athlete. Haidi expressed her gratitude to the Shine Tak Foundation for the award, and acknowledged the dedicated guidance of her coaches, the unwavering support of her family, and the Fencing team for providing a platform to showcase her talent. She shared that the recognition motivates her to train harder, push her limits, and strive for even greater achievements in future competitions.
The men’s epee junior team — comprising Gao Ying-chuen, Hsu Hong-zhan and Wong Chi-ho — secured a bronze medal at the World Junior & Cadet Fencing Championships 2025. With this outstanding performance, they were collectively recognised with the Most Outstanding Team Award.
44 Awardees in the First Half of 2025 and 34 Athletes Receive Certificate of Appreciation and Merit Respectively
A total of 44 junior athletes from 15 sports were crowned the OJAA title in the first half of 2025. The awardees included Koo Cheuk-fung and Kwan Yan-yi (Athletics), Ip Sum-yau and Lam Ka-to (Badminton), Caden Lau, Lin Tianyue and Wan Kwok-ho (Billiard Sports), Ma Yik-fei, Ng Po-li and Yip Hon-man (Cycling), Yu Hoi-tik (Cycling – Mountain Biking), Hui Chun-yu and Ng Shuk-yee (DanceSport), Gao Ying-chuen, Hsu Hong-zhan, Wong Chi-ho, Wong Chit and Haidi Wu (Fencing), Ila Zadie Chan, Lai Hiu-ching, Lau Ka-ching, Ray Tsz-ching and Wong Tim-ching (Gymnastics), Luk Man-hei (Lawn Bowls), Hung Wing-long and Lau Chiu-yee (Para Swimming – Intellectual Disability), Au Lok-yi and Ng Cheuk-yan (Para Swimming – Physical Disability), Chiu Sik-ji and Li Yuet-yi (Roller Sports), Tiago Cheng De Villemor Salgado, Huang Zixi and Margaux Nguyen-Minh (Sailing), Lu Weiyuan, Wong Kin-chun and Yim Kai-hong (Shuttlecock), Cheung Tsz-ching, Ena Kwong, Leung Ka-huen and Helen Tang (Squash), Li Ki-ho, Mak Ming-shum, Su Tsz-tung, and Wong Wan-hei (Table Tennis).

This is a testament to my training efforts. I would like to thank the Shine Tak Foundation, my coaches for their guidance and my family for their unwavering support. I will stay passionate, set higher standards, and keep pushing limits in competition.” Cheung Tsz-ching | Gold Medal, Women’s Team, 22nd Asian Junior Squash Team Championships “I am thankful and thrilled to receive this honour from the Shine Tak Foundation once again. I am grateful to my teammates, whose presence was essential to winning the medal, to my coaches for their guidance, and to my family for their support – all of which have contributed to my success today.” Su Tsz-tung | Gold Medal, U19 Girl’s Singles, WTT Youth Contender Gangneung 2025 “I am thrilled to receive the award. I am grateful to my coaches for their patient guidance and to my family for their unconditional support. This honour motivates me to train harder and push my limits, and I hope to achieve greater success in the future.” |
In addition, 16 athletes were awarded the Certificate of Merit, including Cheung Hei-leuk and Jia Wai-yin (Athletics), Liu Yu-sang (Billiard Sports), Arianna Lau and Leung Hei-tung (Golf), Kwan Pui-ying, Lee Ngai-yi, Leung Pak-ho and Lui To-ming (Karatedo), Chan Yu-tsai, John Han, Mason Alexander Kwong and Tse Wang-chak (Karting), Mak Sai-ting (Swimming), Mok Pak-fan and Wong Nok-hei (Triathlon), in recognition of their hard work.
Eighteen athletes were awarded the Certificate of Appreciation, including Chan Pak-yin (Esports), Yuen Nok-man (Fencing), Chan Hiu-yeung, Fung Cheuk-him, Lee Yat-hei and Yeung Yat-hei (Hapkido), Ng Ka-yiu and Wong Ka-on (Kendo), Man Pok-chung (Lawn Bowls), Chen Ka-wa (Para Athletics – Physical Disability), Mak Ho-yin (Sailing), Fan Hei-wun, Lee Long-hei and So Yat-chun (Shuttlecock), Chu Ka-wing and Hung Sze-ching (Swimming – Artistic Swimming), Chung Cin-yee and Wan Chak-yan (Triathlon).
The OJAA recognises the achievements of outstanding local junior athletes under the age of 19 twice a year. Each winner is presented with a cash award of HK$5,000, a sports voucher worth HK$2,500 and a certificate. For teams, they will receive a cash award of HK$20,000, a sports voucher worth HK$10,000 and certificates.
Being the Government’s designated organisation to provide the high-performance training system for eligible sports, the HKSI is committed to providing an environment in which sports talent can be identified, nurtured, and developed to pursue excellence in the international sporting arena and to inspire potential athletes to pursue a full-time sports career.
