HKSI's Response to 2013 Policy Address

17 January 2013

The Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) welcomes the Government's ongoing support of sport through its three-pronged strategy of promoting sports in the community, developing elite sport and positioning Hong Kong as a major destination for major sports events.  Ongoing initiatives stemming from these strategies will inevitably increase the base of talented athletes for the elite sport pipeline. The Chairman of the HKSI, Mr Carlson Tong said, “We particularly appreciate the Government's acknowledgement of the athletes’ Olympic and Paralympic efforts at the London 2012 Games. We are encouraged by the Government's commitment to build new sports facilities in the community and to support and strengthen the athlete feeder system. Together with the prioritisation of the Multi-purpose Sports Complex (MPSC) at Kai Tak, we believe all these initiatives bode well for sustaining the elite sports development in the long-run.”

The HKSI remains committed to working in partnership with the Government, the National Sports Association, and the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China to deliver best-practice elite sport training systems for Hong Kong's athletes to prepare them to shine at international competition. Mr Tong added, “With the completion of the main sports facilities of the HK$1.8 billion HKSI Redevelopment Project just weeks away, the HKSI is confident that Hong Kong's elite athletes now have a truly world-class training environment to sustain their long term development.”
