18th Hongkong Bank Foundation Elite Coaches Seminar Calls for Enrolment

On top of skill training and team building, one of the important elements of successful elite training is to help the athletes recover quickly from intensive training and injuries.  To echo this, the 18th Hongkong Bank Foundation Elite Coaches Seminar (The Seminar) will be focused on “Enhancing Recovery in Sports” this year.  It will take place in Shanghai for the first time between 11 and 13 September, followed by visits to the Shanghai University of Sport and some training venues.  Enrolment starts today and closes on 16 August.

The annual event is jointly organised by the Hong Kong Coaching Committee (HKCC) and the All-China Sports Federation.  Renowned professionals from the United States (US), China and Hong Kong will share their expertise at the Seminar, they include Dr Sean McCann, Senior Sport Psychologist of the US Olympic Committee; Dr Kerry D’Ambrogio, internationally recognised acupuncture physician and physical therapist; Sun Hai-ping, Deputy Chief Coach of the China National Athletics Team and coach of renowned athlete Liu Xiang; Prof Yang Ze-yi, Researcher of China Anti-Doping Agency and member of preparation for Olympic expert group of the State General Administration of Sports; Dr Raymond So, Sports Science & Medicine Coordinator of the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI); and Dr Paul Wright, Head Athletics Coach of the HKSI.  The topics include “Psychological Aspects of Athlete Recovery: A Model from the US Olympic Committee”, “An Integrated Evaluation and Treatment Approach for the Injured Athlete”, “Liu Xiang’s Road Back to Competition”, “Energy Recovery and Maximization of Training Effectiveness”,  “Enhancing Recovery for Elite Athletes in Physiological Aspects” and “Periodization for Optimal Performance in Track Events”.

The HKCC will grant nine hours of continuing coach education activity if the Hongkong Bank Foundation Coach Accreditation Programme coaches attend the whole event and acquire the attendance certificate.  All presentations will be conducted in Putonghua and English, with simultaneous interpretation service provided.  Interested parties please enrol on or before 16 August (application forms can be downloaded from the HKCC website).  Please also visit the HKCC website at www.hkcoaching.com or contact 2681 6289 for details.

The HKCC, a joint committee of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China and the HKSI, was established in 1991 with an aim to formulate and implement short-term and long-term strategies for the development of coach education and accreditation programmes in Hong Kong.  The Hong Kong Coach Education Programme (CEP) has been funded by the HBF with a total commitment of more than HK$21 million since 1992.  Throughout the years, over 20,000 coaches have been benefited from the training and recognition programmes through the CEP.
