Clarification for Coach Shen Jinkang Being Appointed Head Coach of the China Cycling Team

08 September 2011

In response to some media coverage stating that Shen Jinkang, Head Cycling Coach of the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) being appointed as the Head Coach of the China Cycling Team, the HKSI would like to clarify that this is incorrect.

Coach Shen Jinkang remains the Head Cycling Coach of the HKSI and continues to lead the elite cycling training programme which is currently preparing for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

In pursuing its strategic direction to enhance the HKSI elite training system, the HKSI is pursuing a strategy of increasing formal links with counterparts in mainland China and overseas. Training exchange programmes are regularly organised across all the Elite Sports to provide opportunities to Hong Kong athletes to train with the world’s best, as a core element of this initiative.

One example is the current training exchange programme with China’s world class short distance women track athletes. The HKSI and Hong Kong Cycling Association believe this exchange programme will provide a unique opportunity to enhance Hong Kong’s women track cycling athletes’ training quality as they prepare for the Olympic Games.
