Hongkong Bank Foundation Elite Coaches Seminar Calls for Enrolment Mainland and Hong Kong Experts to Exchange on Young Athlete Development

24 September 2012

Jointly organised by the Hong Kong Coaching Committee (HKCC) and the All-China Sports Federation, the 20th Hongkong Bank Foundation Elite Coaches Seminar will be held from 27 to 28 October in Wuhan, during which six sports professionals will provide insights into the latest development of young elite athletes. HKCC accredited coaches and other interested parties are welcome to enrol.

With more and more young athletes achieving outstanding results in major international sports competitions, there is growing concern on various development issues of young athletes. Under the theme of “Young Elite Athletes Development”, this year’s seminar brings together six experts in sports science, medicine and management and elite coaches from mainland China and Hong Kong to provide their expertise in related issues from various perspectives, including “Nutrition from Elite Young Athletes in China”, “Musculoskeletal Injuries of Young Athletes”, “Psychological Characteristics of Young Elite Athletes and Implications”, “From Young Athlete to Olympic Medallist”, “Child Protection in Elite Athletes Training”, and “Challenges in Training China Young Athletes”.

As an established collaboration between the HKCC and the All-China Sports Federation, the annual seminar is held in Hong Kong and Mainland China every other year to promote exchanges between Mainland and Hong Kong coaches. This year’s seminar will take place in Wuhan, with the support of the Wuhan Sports University as the co-organiser. In addition to gaining an understanding of young athlete development through discussion and sharing, participants will be arranged to visit various sports facilities in Wuhan.

As part of the Hong Kong Coach Education Programme (HKCEP), the Elite Coaches Seminar is also one of the continuing coach education activities under the “Hongkong Bank Foundation Accredited Coach Renewal Scheme”. HKCC accredited coaches will be granted eight hours of continuing coach education activities if they attend the whole seminar and acquire the attendance certificates. Coaches whose coach accreditation cards will expire soon can grab this chance to earn the hours required for renewal.

All presentations will be conducted in Putonghua or English, and simultaneous interpretation service will be provided.  Closing date for enrolment is 3 October. Interested parties are highly recommended to enrol early as seats are limited. Details of the seminar can be found at the HKCC website at http://hkcoaching.com/hk/news.asp. The HKCEP has been funded by the Hongkong Bank Foundation since 1992, with a total commitment of over HK$26 million to date. Over the years, more than 80,000 coaches have benefited from the training and recognition programmes under the HKCEP.
