Scientific Assessment Officer

The Hong Kong Sports Institute Limited (“HKSI”) is the Government’s delivery agent to provide the high performance training system for eligible sports. The HKSI’s mission is to provide an environment in which sports talent can be identified, nurtured and developed to pursue excellence in the international sporting arena benchmarked at Major Games results. We are now inviting suitable candidates for the following vacancy:

The Job

Reporting to the Assistant Sports Science Manager, the Scientific Assessment Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

  • To plan and conduct scientific assessments on the physiological conditions of athletes;
  • To collaborate and advise scientific colleagues design and supervise metabolic training for athletes and monitor their physiological response;
  • To assist in exploring new technologies or innovations relevant to sports science assessment monitoring or training;
  • To assist data interpretation and provide timely feedback to coaches and relevant parties;
  • To assist in planning analysis methods on collected data;
  • To manage all data from training/competition into the central database
  • To provide both local and overseas on-field support to elite sport teams;
  • To perform quality control and maintenance of testing equipment;
  • To assist stock control and ordering of consumables;
  • To assist in research projects; and
  • To perform any other appropriate duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

The Requirements

  • A university degree in science, sports science or related disciplines;
  • A minimum of 2 years’ full-time working experience in related disciplines or 2 years full-time experience as an athlete within a high performance system and exposed to applied sports science;
  • Good interpersonal and planning skills;
  • Able to work irregular hours and perform under pressure;
  • Holder of valid first aid, CPR and AED certificate;
  • Proficient in computer software applications such as Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office;
  • Good command of both spoken and written English and Chinese. Ability to speak Putonghua is an advantage; and
  • Awareness / knowledge of Child Protection in sport and equal opportunity issues in the context of Hong Kong.
