Improving sport performance through multidisciplinary sport science research at the Queensland Academy of Sport
By Dr. Sue Hooper
A new era for Australian sports science began in 2004 with an initiative of the Queensland Government to establish a Centre of Excellence for Applied Sport Science Research. It was the first of its kind in Australia although others have been set up since at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra and some of the other states. These specialist applied sport science research centres are an important part of the evolution of the Australian sporting scene as it has unfolded in the last decades. This presentation will address the conditions in the sport science system which led to the establishment of the centre at the Queensland Academy of Sport, how it was established and the initiatives we have put in place. It will also cover the projects we have underway and what we have achieved.
